Role & responsibilities

The Head of Engineering / Methoding will lead all casting methoding, simulation, and process engineering activities at the Jaipur plant. The incumbent will own the technical correctness of method cards, drive yield improvement, eliminate casting defects through data-driven process changes, and act as the technical bridge between design, foundry, and quality functions. Strong proficiency in MAGMA simulation and a deep understanding of Hi-Cr and Mn-steel metallurgy are core to this role. Key Responsibilities Casting Methoding & Design • Develop and approve method cards (gating, risering, feeding, chills, padding, cooling) for new and existing castings in Hi-Cr iron and Mn-steel grades. • Optimise yield, fettling time, and dimensional accuracy across product lines. • Standardise methoding practices, drawings, pattern layouts, and process documentation across the plant. • Review and approve pattern, core box, and tooling designs in coordination with the pattern shop and tooling vendors. MAGMA Simulation & Analysis Confidential Job Description | Page 1 Shri Balaji Industrial Products Ltd. • Build, run, and interpret MAGMA simulations for new development and problem-solving on existing castings. • Analyse simulation outputs solidification, hot spots, porosity, shrinkage, residual stress, filling behaviour and translate findings into concrete method-card revisions. • Use simulation iteratively to improve yield, reduce internal defects, and validate process changes before shop-floor trials. • Maintain a library of validated simulation models and correlate simulation predictions with actual casting results. Defect Analysis & Process Improvement • Track casting quality data – rejection trends, defect codes,



internal and customer complaints – and lead structured root-cause analysis (RCA, 5-Why, Fishbone). • Identify recurring quality issues (shrinkage, blow holes, slag inclusions, cracks, mismatch, hardness variation) and drive permanent corrective actions through method or process changes. • Continuously refine method cards based on production feedback, NDT results, machining feedback, and field performance. • Lead yield improvement projects and reduction of internal rework / rejection rates through engineering interventions. Cross-Functional Leadership • Lead the methoding, pattern shop, and process engineering team; mentor junior engineers in simulation and methoding best practices. • Coordinate with Production, Quality, Pattern Shop, and Maintenance to implement engineering changes effectively. • Support Sales and NPD with feasibility studies, costing inputs, and technical proposals for new castings. • Interact with customers and consultants on technical clarifications, deviations, and approvals where required. Documentation & Standards • Maintain a controlled library of method cards, simulation reports, drawings, and engineering change notes. • Ensure compliance with ISO and customer-specific quality standards in all engineering documentation. • Drive digitisation of methoding workflows and knowledge management.

Preferred candidate profile

Education • Diploma/ B.E./B.Tech in Metallurgy / Mechanical / Foundry Technology from a recognised institution is desirable. Experience • Proven hands-on experience in casting methoding, with a robust focus on Hi-Cr and Mn-steel grades. • Demonstrable track record of designing method cards from scratch and improving yield on existing parts. • Significant experience using MAGMASOFT for simulation and process optimisation. • Experience leading a methoding / engineering team is preferred.
