Recruitment Job Description
Position: Business Manager – Sales & Business Operations
Function: Business Management / Sales & Operations
Reporting To: Directors
Industry: Jewellery Retail (Gold & Diamonds)
Location: Kochi, Kerala (Corporate Office – with periodic travel to showrooms)
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Business Manager – Sales & Business Operations is responsible for the overall sales performance and business growth of Kallarackal Jewellery’s showroom network. Operating from the Corporate Office, the role carries ownership of the consolidated sales targets set by the Directors translating business objectives into showroom-level plans, reviewing performance, strengthening sales management practices, and driving every showroom towards its assigned targets through the Showroom, Branch, and Sales Managers who report to this position. Acting as the central link between the Directors and showroom leadership, the Business Manager works closely with the MARCOM, HR, Purchase, Finance & Accounts, and Inventory/Operations functions to ensure that marketing, manpower, product availability, and operational support contribute directly to sales growth and customer conversion. The primary accountability of this position is business target achievement not merely monitoring reports or supervising managers.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Business Target Ownership
– Own the consolidated sales targets assigned by the Directors across all showrooms and branches.
– Translate annual and quarterly business objectives into monthly, weekly, and daily showroom-level sales plans.
– Monitor actual sales against targets, identify gaps early, and drive recovery plans for underperforming showrooms.
– Improve revenue, customer conversion, average bill value, and repeat purchases while protecting gross margins and discount controls.
– Present consolidated business performance, forecasts, risks, and action plans to the Directors.
2. Showroom & Branch Performance Management
– Lead Showroom, Branch, and Sales Managers towards their respective targets, each with a clear action plan.
– Conduct regular performance reviews covering daily sales, conversion, footfall, average bill value, and product mix.
– Carry out periodic showroom visits to evaluate sales execution, customer experience, staff productivity, and merchandising.
– Coach managers in target planning, sales forecasting, team motivation, and conversion improvement.
– Recommend corrective measures or performance interventions for consistently underperforming managers.
3. Sales Strategy & Business Development
– Develop short-term and long-term sales strategies aligned with the company’s business objectives and growth plans.
– Analyse showroom-wise sales history, seasonality, customer segments, and competition to build location-specific strategies.
– Drive strategies for wedding jewellery, occasion-based purchases, jewellery schemes, referrals, and repeat customers.
– Strengthen lead management, high-value customer handling, cross-selling, and upselling across all showrooms.
– Support the Directors in evaluating new showroom opportunities and business expansion initiatives.
4. Coordination with MARCOM
– Communicate showroom-wise sales priorities, target gaps, customer segments, and campaign requirements to the MARCOM Manager.
– Ensure marketing-generated leads and enquiries are assigned, followed up, and converted through a defined process.
– Evaluate campaign effectiveness on measurable sales outcomes rather than reach or engagement alone.
– Participate in planning seasonal, wedding, festival, and customer-retention campaigns, aligning promotions with showroom execution and stock availability.
5. Coordination with HR & Manpower
– Assess showroom-wise manpower requirements with the HR Manager based on sales targets, footfall, and business potential.
– Participate in recruitment planning for Showroom Managers, Sales Managers, and Sales Executives.
– Define KPIs and performance expectations for showroom leadership in coordination with HR and the Directors.
– Identify training needs in product knowledge, customer handling, sales conversion, and team leadership.
6. Coordination with Purchase, Inventory & Operations
– Share showroom-wise product requirements, fast-moving categories, customer requests, and stock gaps with the Purchase Manager.
– Review lost-sales opportunities caused by unavailable products, assortment mismatches, or delayed replenishment.
– Share sales forecasts and seasonal demand estimates in advance with the Purchase and Inventory teams.
– Monitor slow-moving inventory and recommend commercially appropriate actions within approved purchasing policies.
7. Financial Performance & Business Control
– Monitor sales performance alongside gross margin, discounting, returns, and cancellations.
– Review showroom-wise profitability and identify opportunities to improve business contribution.
– Ensure showroom managers operate within approved pricing, discount, credit, and customer transaction policies.
– Coordinate with Finance & Accounts to validate sales reports, customer outstanding balances, and scheme-related liabilities.
– Escalate material financial, operational, or compliance concerns to the Directors.
8. Business Reporting & Management Reviews
– Establish a standardised business reporting system across all showrooms.
– Consolidate daily sales reports into weekly, monthly, and quarterly target-versus-actual performance reviews.
– Present management reports highlighting achievements, shortfalls, root causes, corrective actions, responsible persons, and timelines.
– Follow up on management decisions and ensure approved action points are implemented by the responsible teams.
9. Customer Experience & Brand Standards
– Ensure consistent customer service standards across all showrooms in line with the brand’s positioning.
– Review customer complaints, service failures, lost customers, and recurring concerns with showroom managers.
– Establish processes for customer follow-up, relationship management, repeat purchases, and referrals.
– Ensure sales growth never compromises transparency, ethical selling practices, or customer trust.
10. Leadership & Continuous Improvement
– Build a strong, accountable showroom management team capable of delivering consistent business results.
– Identify weaknesses in existing sales processes and recommend practical improvements.
– Standardise successful sales practices across showrooms while allowing for legitimate local-market differences.
– Keep the Directors informed of critical business issues,
