About the role
Vispero builds assistive technology for people who are blind or have low vision, including JAWS, ZoomText, and Fusion. We are seeking a Software Installation Engineer, working remotely from India, to own the installation and update experience for these Windows desktop products. Our installers are currently built on Windows Installer (MSI) and WiX, and we are actively evaluating what comes next. Installation experience on any platform is welcome. Windows Installer specifics can be learned on the job. You will maintain and improve the current installers while helping shape our future deployment strategy, working closely with engineering teams in the United States. AI coding tools such as Claude Code and OpenAI Codex are part of our everyday workflow, and you will be expected to understand the technical stack well enough to judge, correct, and own everything those tools produce. Responsibilities
• Maintain and enhance the JAWS, ZoomText, and Fusion installers, resolving install, upgrade, repair, and uninstall issues and delivering new features.
• Evaluate modern installation and update technologies, such as MSIX, current WiX releases, and in-product updaters, and lead their adoption.
• Develop custom actions and bootstrapper components in C++ and C#.
• Ensure installers are fully accessible and support silent and managed deployment through tools such as Microsoft Intune and Configuration Manager.
• Diagnose failures using verbose logs, and prevent regressions through automated testing.
• Use Claude Code, Codex, or similar agentic tools to scaffold features, write tests, refactor legacy code, and investigate bugs, reviewing all generated code for correctness, security, and maintainability before it ships.
• Write clear task specs, prompts, and project context files (such as CLAUDE.md or AGENTS.md) so AI tools produce consistent results across the team. Required qualifications
• E., B.
Tech, MCA,
or equivalent degree in computer science or a related field.
• 2+ years of experience building and maintaining software installers or deployment packages on any platform.
• Solid understanding of installation fundamentals that apply on every platform: versioning and upgrade paths, file and permission layout, service or daemon registration, rollback, clean uninstall, and code signing.
• Willingness to learn Windows Installer and WiX in depth.
• Skilled experience with C++ and/or C#
• Hands-on daily use of Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot, or similar tools on production code, with examples you can walk through.
• The judgment to spot when AI output is wrong, insecure, or poorly designed, and the installer and C++/C# depth to fix it yourself.
• Working knowledge of Git and code review workflows.
• Clear written and spoken English for working with distributed teams. Good specs make better code, whether a person or an AI tool writes it.
• Willingness to overlap a few hours each day with US Eastern Time for meetings and handoffs. Preferred qualifications
• Hands-on experience with Windows Installer, including components, upgrades, patching, and custom actions.
• Experience with WiX Burn bundles or custom bootstrapper user interfaces.
• Experience with modern installation and update technologies such as MSIX, winget, or auto-update systems.
• Experience migrating products between installer technologies.
• Experience writing automated tests for installation, upgrade, and uninstall scenarios, and using them to check AI-generated changes.
• Familiarity with accessibility, screen readers, or Microsoft UI Automation.
• Experience working with product companies or global engineering teams.
