# JOB DESCRIPTION

## Position: Structural Design Engineer – Onshore & Offshore Oil & Gas

### 1. Job Summary

We are seeking experienced Structural Design Engineers to support onshore and offshore Oil & Gas engineering projects. The role involves structural analysis, steel structure design, connection design, and preparation and review of engineering deliverables for industrial facilities, process plants, offshore platforms, and topside structures.

The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of structural engineering principles, international design codes, and structural analysis software, with the ability to deliver safe, efficient, and cost-effective structural designs in accordance with project specifications and applicable standards.

### 2. Key Responsibilities

**A. Structural Analysis and Design**

* Perform structural analysis and design of steel structures for onshore and offshore Oil & Gas facilities.
* Analyse and design pipe racks, equipment support structures, access platforms, walkways, maintenance platforms, and industrial steel structures.
* Support structural design of offshore topsides, modules, platform structures, and associated support systems.
* Evaluate structural strength, stability, deflection, vibration, and serviceability requirements, as applicable.
* Perform structural calculations and design verifications under dead loads, live loads, equipment loads, piping loads, wind loads, seismic loads, and other applicable environmental and operational loads.
* Review structural integrity and ensure compliance with applicable design criteria and project specifications.
* Coordinate with civil, piping, mechanical, and other engineering disciplines to resolve design interfaces.

**B. Steel Connection Design**

* Perform analysis, design, and verification of structural steel connections.
* Design bolted and welded connections, including beam-to-beam, beam-to-column, column base, bracing, and moment connections.
* Evaluate connection capacities, member forces, and connection detailing requirements.
* Prepare connection design calculations and technical reports.
* Verify connections in accordance with applicable structural design codes and project specifications.
* Coordinate with drafting and detailing teams to ensure practical and fabrication-friendly connection designs.

**C. Onshore Oil & Gas Structural Engineering**

* Design and analyse structural steelwork for process plants, refineries, petrochemical facilities, and gas processing plants.
* Perform structural analysis of pipe racks, equipment platforms, access structures, and supporting steelwork.
* Coordinate with civil and geotechnical teams for foundations and equipment support interfaces.
* Consider applicable wind, seismic, operating, maintenance, and equipment loading conditions.
* Review structural drawings, design calculations,



and construction-related technical queries.

**D. Offshore Oil & Gas Structural Engineering**

* Support structural analysis and design of offshore topsides, modules, equipment supports, and platform structures.
* Assess structural members and connections for applicable operating, transportation, lifting, installation, and environmental loading conditions.
* Consider offshore-specific design requirements, including wind, wave, current, and other environmental effects, where applicable to the assigned scope.
* Coordinate with piping and mechanical teams regarding equipment loads, piping reactions, and structural support requirements.
* Support structural design reviews and verification of offshore structural components in accordance with project-specific offshore standards.
* Assist with technical documentation and resolution of engineering comments.

**E. Engineering Deliverables and Documentation**

* Prepare structural design calculations, analysis reports, and engineering documentation.
* Review structural drawings, fabrication drawings, and connection details.
* Review vendor drawings, equipment data, and technical documentation.
* Prepare and review design deliverables in accordance with project specifications and quality procedures.
* Respond to technical queries and support interdisciplinary design reviews.
* Ensure deliverables meet project quality requirements and agreed schedules.

### 3. Educational Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
* Master's degree in Structural Engineering will be an added advantage.

### 4. Experience Required

* Minimum: 3 years of relevant experience.
* Maximum: 15 years of relevant experience.
* Experience in structural analysis and steel design for Oil & Gas, petrochemical, offshore, onshore, or other industrial projects.
* Practical experience in structural steel design, connection design, and engineering calculations.
* Experience working with EPC contractors, engineering consultancies, or multidisciplinary engineering organisations is preferred.
* Direct offshore project experience will be an added advantage for candidates working on offshore assignments.

### 5. Software Skills

Candidates should have experience with relevant structural engineering software.

* **STAAD.Pro:** Structural analysis and steel design.
* **SAP2000:** Structural analysis and design.
* **IDEA StatiCa:** Steel connection analysis and design.




* **RAM Connection:** Structural steel connection design and verification.
* **AutoCAD:** Structural drawings and connection detailing.
* **Tekla Structures:** Structural modelling and detailing, where applicable.
* **Microsoft Excel:** Engineering calculations, design spreadsheets, and technical documentation.

Experience with additional structural analysis or offshore engineering software will be an advantage, depending on project requirements.

### 6. Applicable Codes and Standards

Working knowledge of relevant international codes and standards, as applicable to the project scope:

* AISC 360 – Specification for Structural Steel Buildings.
* ASCE 7 – Minimum Design Loads and Associated Criteria for Buildings and Other Structures.
* ACI 318 – Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete, where applicable.
* AWS D1.1 – Structural Welding Code – Steel.
* Eurocodes, where specified by the project.
* ISO 19900 series – General requirements for offshore structures, where applicable.
* ISO 19901 series – Specific requirements for offshore structures, where applicable.
* API and other applicable offshore structural standards, as required by project specifications.

Candidates should be able to interpret project design criteria and apply the relevant codes and standards to structural analysis and design activities.

### 7. Key Competencies

* Strong knowledge of structural analysis and steel design principles.
* Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, design criteria, and technical specifications.
* Ability to prepare and independently check structural calculations.
* Good understanding of structural stability, load paths, and connection behaviour.
* Robust analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
* Effective communication and multidisciplinary coordination abilities.
* Ability to manage engineering deliverables and meet project deadlines.

### 8. Industry Experience

Experience in one or more of the following sectors is preferred:

* Onshore Oil & Gas facilities.
* Offshore platforms and topsides.
* Refineries and petrochemical plants.
* LNG and gas processing facilities.
* FPSO and offshore production facilities.
* Industrial steel structures and equipment support systems.
* Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) projects.

### 9. Reporting Structure

The Structural Design Engineer will report to the Lead Structural Engineer, Principal Structural Engineer, or Structural Engineering Manager, depending on the project organisation.
