The Lead Design Engineer Primary is responsible for planning, reviewing, and delivering primary design work for substation projects (India and overseas).
They lead a team, coordinate with other departments, and ensure designs are completed on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver engineering drawings and documents on schedule
Create and review:
Substation layouts
Equipment layouts
Electrical clearance drawings
Select and size equipment (transformers, switchgear, CT/PT, etc.)
Check and approve design calculations and outputs
Work with Civil and Secondary teams (foundations, cable routing, etc.)
Prepare and review:
BOQ (Bill of Quantities)
Material specifications
Design Basis Reports (DBR)
Review vendor drawings and ensure they meet requirements
Support vendor selection and technical evaluations
Coordinate with site teams to solve design issues
Support bidding and review tender documents
Ensure compliance with standards, safety rules, and client needs
Technical Skills Required
Solid knowledge of substation primary design, including:
AIS/GIS substation layouts
Equipment sizing and selection
Electrical clearances and insulation
Busbar schemes
Earthing and lightning protection
Cable routing
Understanding of coordination with Civil and Secondary engineering
Experience reviewing vendor drawings
Knowledge of standards (IEC, IS, IEEE)
Ability to understand technical contract requirements
