Hiring: Senior Project Director – Core Banking Implementation Industry: Banking & Financial Services | Banking Technology Transformation

We are seeking an accomplished Senior Project Director – Core Banking Implementation to lead an independent turnkey advisory engagement for a National Development Bank undertaking a comprehensive Core Banking System (CBS) replacement.
The successful candidate will serve as the principal interface with the Bank's Executive Commission, providing strategic leadership, project governance, and end-to-end delivery oversight across all eight operational stages of the transformation.
This is a senior leadership opportunity for a banking technology expert with a proven track record in Tier-1 or Tier-2 core banking migrations, executive stakeholder management, vendor governance, and complex financial services transformation programs.

End-to-End Project Leadership
Direct and govern Phase 1: Planning, Requirements Definition, and CBS Vendor Selection.
Implementation, Migration, Testing, Go-Live, and Post-Go-Live Stabilization.
Ensure delivery against approved scope, timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
Project Governance & PMO Leadership
Establish and oversee the Project Management Office (PMO), governance framework, and project controls.
Define project baselines, milestones, deliverables, dependencies, and acceptance criteria.
Manage risk registers, issue escalation, change control, and mitigation strategies.
Executive & Stakeholder Management
Act as the principal point of contact for the Bank's Executive Commission and senior steering committees.
Deliver executive-level progress reports,



governance updates, and strategic recommendations.
Facilitate decision-making across business, technology, operations, compliance, and regulatory stakeholders.
Vendor & Contract Management
Lead vendor negotiations, contractual governance, and milestone-based payment controls.
Monitor vendor performance against contractual obligations, SLAs, and implementation deliverables.
Manage scope changes, delivery disputes, dependencies, and contractual risks.
Coordinate multidisciplinary teams across CBS architecture, data migration, integrations, testing, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and business operations.
Oversee implementation readiness, data conversion, UAT, cutover planning, and go-live execution.
Ensure alignment with applicable banking regulations, local compliance requirements, and operational standards.

Required Qualifications & Experience

- 10+ years of hands-on experience leading Tier-1 or Tier-2 Core Banking System implementations, replacements, or migrations.
- Demonstrated leadership of large-scale banking technology transformation programs from planning and vendor selection through implementation and post-go-live stabilization.
- Professional certification in PMP, PRINCE2 Practitioner, or AgilePM .




- Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory , with the ability to manage executive-level stakeholder discussions and support local regulatory alignment.
- Solid experience in PMO establishment, program governance, project baselining, milestone management, and risk control.
- Proven expertise in vendor negotiations, contract management, milestone-based payment structures, and service-level governance.
- Exceptional executive communication, leadership, stakeholder management, and decision-making skills.
- Experience working with development banks, public-sector financial institutions, or regulated banking environments is highly desirable.

The ideal candidate is a senior banking transformation professional who combines strategic oversight with hands-on delivery expertise. They should be comfortable engaging directly with executive leadership while maintaining rigorous control over implementation teams, vendors, delivery milestones, risks, and project outcomes.

Experience managing cross-functional teams and complex, multi-stage CBS transformation programs in Portuguese-speaking markets will be a significant advantage.
