and implement effective corrective and preventive improvements.
- Review designs, models, calculations, and drawings for technical accuracy and compliance.
- Support design optimisation to improve structural performance, manufacturability, installation efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
- Stay updated on industry trends, engineering standards, design practices, and emerging technologies.
- Recommend and implement improved design tools, methods, and processes.
Material Selection and Engineering Support
- Select appropriate materials, such as steel, concrete, timber, or masonry, based on strength, durability, availability, and cost.
- Apply knowledge of steel fabrication processes, equipment interfaces, and installation techniques during design development.
- Provide technical clarifications and engineering support to fabrication, procurement, quality, project, and installation teams.
- Resolve design-related issues arising during manufacturing, fabrication, and site installation.
Site Inspection and Compliance
- Conduct site visits and inspections to verify construction progress and adherence to approved drawings and specifications.
- Identify and resolve technical issues encountered during fabrication, erection, and installation.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable local, national, and international codes and standards, including ASME, ANSI, BIS, and relevant structural-design standards.
- Ensure compliance with organisational health, safety, quality, and engineering requirements.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of structural steel design principles and engineering practices.
- Proven experience in the design of steel structures for industrial projects.
- Expert knowledge of structural analysis software such as STAAD.Pro and Robot Structural Analysis.
- Proficiency in TEKLA Structures for 2D detailing and 3D modelling.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, BIM, Inventor, and Navisworks.
- Ability to interpret mechanical, structural, fabrication, and CAD drawings.
- In-depth understanding of equipment interfaces, fabrication processes, and installation techniques.
- Working knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards, including ASME, ANSI, and BIS.
- Robust analytical, numerical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to investigate design failures and perform root-cause analysis.
- Strong communication, coordination, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and work within project timelines.
- Knowledge of tall steel structures, particularly industrial steel stacks, will be preferred.
Educational Qualifications and Experience
Candidates should meet either of the following criteria:
Degree Holders
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Structural Engineering.
- 8-10 years of experience in the engineering or manufacturing industry.
- At least 5 years of experience in a structural design department.
Diploma Holders
- Diploma in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
- 18-20 years of experience in the engineering or manufacturing industry.
- At least 10-12 years of experience in a steel-structure design department.
Preferred Experience
- Structural design experience in engineering, manufacturing, or heavy-industrial projects.
