Position/Title: Senior Principal Engineer & Architect

We are looking for a Senior Principal Engineer & Architect to lead an engineering team and set the technical direction for a large, business-critical product estate. The estate spans VB6, C#, .NET Framework and modern .NET, and is moving towards API-first, AI-enabled architecture.

This is a player-coach role. You will own the architecture and modernization roadmap, and stay close to the code to make and defend hard technical calls.

Roles and Responsibilities

Business and Product

- Develop a deep understanding of the company's business model, customers, products, competitive environment, and growth strategy, and use this understanding to shape Engineering priorities.
- Partner closely with Product, QA, and other stakeholders to translate customer and business needs into clear engineering outcomes. Ensure the team understands the business context and “why” behind customer and product requirements, rather than simply executing technical specifications Development Strategy & Leadership
- Lead and manage the engineering team responsible for delivering high-quality, scalable, and maintainable software.




- Translate company and product strategy into clear engineering priorities
- Identify and eliminate organizational, technical, and process constraints that limit speed, quality, scalability, productivity, and innovation.
- Act as a catalyst for change, challenging existing assumptions and continuously looking for ways to improve how Engineering delivers value Technical Leadership & Architecture
- Own the target architecture and an incremental modernization roadmap for the VB6 / .NET Framework estate (no big-bang rewrites)
- Provide strong technical leadership and guidance across system architecture, scalability, security, reliability, APIs, distributed systems, data platforms, and integrations.
- Guide complex technical and architectural decisions.
- Champion Secure SDLC, secure coding, observability, resilience engineering, performance engineering, CI/CD, deployment safety, and automation.
- Ensure technology choices enable future product evolution and do not unnecessarily constrain business agility. Engineering Productivity, AI & Innovation
- Improve engineering productivity through automation, reusable components, tooling, and effective engineering practices.
- Lead adoption of AI across the software development lifecycle. This includes agentic coding tools, spec-driven development, AI-assisted testing and code review, and legacy code comprehension and migration. Metrics, Governance & Continuous Improvement
- Own measurable improvement in delivery (lead time, deployment frequency, predictability) and quality (change failure rate, defect escape rate, test effectiveness).

Experience & Skillsets

- 15+ years of professional experience in enterprise software development, preferably in a software product-based organization.
- Robust background in Windows desktop application development and web services (REST, OData, or gRPC).
- Strong experience with the Microsoft .NET ecosystem, particularly C#, .NET/.NET Core, VB.NET, VB6,



and enterprise application development.
- Proficiency in systems design, architecture, requirements analysis, and user story creation.
- A proven record of incremental legacy modernization while keeping production stable.
- Experience in effort estimation, risk identification, and mitigation planning.
- Deep expertise in object-oriented programming, design patterns, and multi-threaded applications.
- Proven experience in application performance tuning (profiling, memory management, threading, SQL query optimization).
- Proficiency in Oracle (or other RDBMS), including query optimization and performance tuning.
- Hands-on experience with source control (Git), CI/CD (TeamCity, Azure DevOps, or equivalent), and Agile methodologies.
- Current, hands-on experience using AI coding assistants and agents in real delivery, with a clear view of where they help and where they don’t.
- Demonstrated ability to work on complex, large-scale enterprise applications.
- Experience leading large-scale, highly available and complex software products or platforms.
- Strong architecture and system-design depth, with the ability to guide and challenge complex technical decisions.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders across Product, Business and Technology.
- Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in ambiguous, fast-changing and transformation-oriented environments.

- Strong experience with VB6, C#, .NET / .NET Core and enterprise application development.
