Hiring Brief: Two Senior Systems / Product Engineers Prospective enterprise product-engineering engagement | Priority search Assignment We are building a shortlist of two senior engineers for a prospective engagement involving Cloudflare's Zaraz and Google Tag Gateway products. This is a competitive opportunity, not an awarded engagement. Candidates should be evaluated for technical suitability and availability, but no client placement or start date should be promised. We need engineers who have built, extended and operated production software—not developers whose experience is limited to implementing feature tickets. Position 1: Senior Systems Engineer — Go + TypeScript Primary focus: Backend product engineering, integration platforms and Cloudflare Workers. Must-have capabilities Strong, hands-on Go experience building and maintaining production APIs or backend services. Practical TypeScript proficiency, including debugging and modifying backend or serverless code. Solid HTTP fundamentals: requests, responses, authentication, headers, timeouts, retries, idempotency and error handling. Experience integrating external APIs and handling changing third-party contracts. Demonstrated ownership of production defects, troubleshooting, releases and regression tests. Ability to understand an unfamiliar codebase and improve it without unnecessary rewrites. Particularly relevant experience Extensible systems, plugin architectures, SDKs or integration platforms. High-throughput event processing, webhooks and asynchronous workflows. Cloudflare Workers, serverless or edge computing. Browser analytics, tag management, consent management or marketing technology. Likely responsibilities Work on a Go service/API and a TypeScript event-processing Worker. Maintain and enhance a library of approximately 38 Managed Components. Resolve compatibility defects and enterprise customer escalations. Support customer onboarding and product demonstrations. Contribute to architecture evolution, including potential execution isolation using Agile Workers. Position 2: Senior Systems Engineer — Rust + TypeScript Primary focus: Production Rust services,



HTTP request processing and edge/serverless engineering. Must-have capabilities Strong commercial experience developing and maintaining production Rust services. Practical TypeScript proficiency, particularly asynchronous services and request/response handling. Deep understanding of ownership, borrowing, error handling, concurrency and async Rust. Experience with HTTP networking, request transformation, proxying or comparable systems programming. Ability to diagnose production performance, reliability and compatibility problems. Strong automated testing, code-review and operational debugging practices. Particularly relevant experience Tokio, Hyper, Axum or similar Rust networking frameworks. Reverse proxies, gateways, CDNs, API gateways or web infrastructure. Cloudflare Workers or comparable edge/serverless environments. JavaScript/HTML transformation, streaming responses, headers, redirects and caching. Large-scale traffic processing or latency-sensitive systems. Likely responsibilities Work on a Rust service/API and a TypeScript Worker. Maintain first-party tag gateway functionality. Investigate JavaScript injection/rewrite compatibility problems. Support enterprise onboarding, incidents and production escalations. Contribute to reliability, performance and future gateway enhancements. Shared expectations Both engineers must demonstrate: Product engineering mindset: Understand customer behavior and long-term maintainability, not just assigned requirements. Production ownership: Investigate incidents, perform root-cause analysis and make safe corrective changes. Engineering quality: Write tests, review code, work with CI/CD and understand rollback/recovery. System design judgment: Make pragmatic decisions around performance,



security, compatibility and extensibility. Autonomy and communication: Work directly with product and engineering stakeholders, explain trade-offs clearly and escalate risks early. Operational readiness: Willingness to participate in an agreed support/on-call arrangement, subject to defined coverage and escalation expectations. Preferred candidate profile Senior individual contributor, ideally with around 6–10+ years of relevant engineering experience, but assess demonstrated depth rather than years alone. Has personally owned production services, substantial integrations or core platform components. Can explain difficult incidents, design compromises and mistakes from previous projects. Comfortable contributing to an established product instead of insisting on rebuilding it. Able to work effectively with US/UK stakeholders, including agreed overlap hours. Recruitment exclusions Do not prioritize candidates whose experience is limited to frontend React/Angular development, CRUD applications, introductory Go/Rust projects, or cloud certifications without hands-on systems engineering. Do not insist on expertise in both Go and Rust, prior Cloudflare employment, or specific Cloudflare platform products. Candidate submission requirements For each shortlisted candidate, Talent Acquisition should provide: Primary language and production experience, with named projects and responsibilities. TypeScript proficiency and examples of server-side or serverless work. Two significant production systems or integrations they personally worked on. One serious production incident they diagnosed or resolved. Experience with automated testing, CI/CD and operational observability. Current availability, notice period, location, timezone overlap and compensation expectations. Any verifiable public code, technical writing or open-source work where available. Recruitment objective: Identify engineers credible enough to be presented to an experienced Cloudflare product/engineering leader, not merely candidates who match keywords in the RFP.
