Job Description - Linux Platform & Build Engineer
Role Summary
We are hiring a Linux Platform & Build Engineer who combines strong C programming with solid Linux
internals and hands-on build experience. The engineer owns building Linux software from source,
debugging platform issues, and delivering reproducible results - working close to both the system
and the hardware.
Core Requirements
Linux build exposure - hands-on building Linux software from source: toolchains and
cross-compilation, `make`/build systems, kernel and/or distro/image builds, and triaging and
fixing build failures.
Linux internals - solid understanding of processes, scheduling, memory management, the
kernel/user-space boundary, system calls, drivers/modules, `/proc` and `/sys`, and `dmesg`-based
debugging.
Strong C programming - write, read, and debug non-trivial C: pointers, memory management,
data structures, and systems-level code; comfortable with `gdb`.
Git proficiency - confident branching, merging, rebasing, conflict resolution, and code
review in a collaborative Git-based workflow.
Embedded knowledge (minimum) - foundational exposure to embedded/hardware-oriented Linux
targets and basic platform bring-up.
Key Responsibilities
- Build Linux components **from source** (kernel, modules, and/or distro images) and keep builds
reproducible; triage and fix build issues.
- Develop, debug,
and maintain **systems-level software** in C on Linux.
- Debug **platform and kernel/user-space issues** to root cause using logs, `dmesg`, and standard
tooling.
- Work within a **Git-based workflow**: submit and review changes and keep history clean.
- Produce **reproducible, evidence-backed** results with clear reproduction steps, logs, and root
cause analysis.
- Document outcomes and track work in standard engineering tools.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
- Build & CI/CD pipelines and containerized builds (Docker/containerd).
- Scripting for automation (Bash and/or Python).
- Kernel engineering: driver enablement, backports, and patches.
- Distro/packaging experience (e.g., Debian-based) and image/rootfs construction.
- Hardware/platform depth: PCIe/`lspci`, sysfs, SR-IOV/VFIO, networking tooling.
- Embedded/ARM64 bring-up and board support package (BSP) integration.
Required Mindset
- Rigorous and evidence-driven: verified results over assumptions, with clear root cause
analysis.
- Strong debugging instinct and ownership from problem to resolution.
- Clear communication and collaboration in a team setting.
Tools & Workplace
Linux C Git GCC/Clang toolchains `make`/build systems `gdb` kernel & distro builds
CI/CD Bash/Python PCIe/`lspci`/sysfs.
