Job SummaryUser Umbrella LLP is hiring an experienced Senior Microsoft Purview Engineer for a UK-based financial enterprise client.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for leading the implementation, configuration, and management of Microsoft Purview across Microsoft 365 and Azure environments. The role involves designing and implementing data protection, information governance, sensitivity labeling, Data Loss Prevention (DLP), retention policies, and compliance controls.

The candidate will work closely with Information Security, IT Infrastructure, Legal, Compliance, and business stakeholders to ensure effective data governance and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities1. Microsoft Purview Implementation & Architecture

- Lead end-to-end Microsoft Purview implementation, including assessment, design, rollout, and operational handover.
- Define and implement enterprise data classification frameworks.
- Integrate Purview with Microsoft Entra ID, Intune, Defender for Endpoint, Defender for Cloud Apps, and Microsoft Sentinel.
- Prepare technical architecture documents, configuration standards, and operational runbooks.

2. Information Protection & Data Loss Prevention (DLP)

- Design and deploy sensitivity labels, auto-labeling, encryption, and label policies.
- Implement DLP policies across Microsoft 365, endpoints, and cloud applications.
- Monitor and optimize DLP policies to minimize false positives.
- Support Microsoft 365 Copilot and AI governance through Purview controls.

3. Data Lifecycle & Compliance

- Configure retention labels and policies.
- Support eDiscovery, legal holds, and audit investigations.
- Ensure alignment with organizational records retention and compliance requirements.

4. Insider Risk & Security Monitoring





- Configure Insider Risk Management and Communication Compliance policies.
- Monitor alerts and investigate potential data security incidents.
- Automate reporting and configurations using PowerShell and Microsoft Graph.
- Generate compliance reports using Microsoft Compliance Manager.

5. Data Governance & Stakeholder Management

- Implement Purview Data Map and Unified Catalog.
- Support data discovery and classification across Azure, Microsoft Fabric, and on-premise environments.
- Coordinate with Legal, Compliance, IT, and business stakeholders.
- Drive user awareness, training, and adoption of data protection policies.

Required Skills & Qualifications
- 6–8 years of experience in IT Security, Microsoft 365 Engineering, or Compliance.
- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview.
- Expertise in Sensitivity Labels, DLP, Retention Policies, eDiscovery, and Audit.
- Robust working knowledge of Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Microsoft Teams, and Microsoft Entra ID.
- Experience with Microsoft Intune, Defender for Endpoint, Defender for Cloud Apps, and Microsoft Sentinel.
- Hands-on experience with PowerShell and Microsoft Graph API.
- Knowledge of GDPR, CCPA, ISO 27001, SOC 2, and NIST security frameworks.
- Experience implementing data classification and enterprise information protection policies.
- Excellent analytical, communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Certifications
- Microsoft SC-401 or SC-400.
- SC-100 or SC-200.
- CISSP, CIPT, or CDPSE.
- Experience with Microsoft Purview Data Map, Unified Catalog, Insider Risk Management, and Microsoft 365 Copilot governance.
