PI R&D; Chemist Roles and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities
Perform chemical synthesis of API molecules according to approved procedures.
Develop, optimize, and scale up synthetic routes for APIs and intermediates.
Conduct laboratory experiments and maintain accurate experimental records.
Handle reactions, work-up, purification, crystallization, distillation, and drying operations.
Prepare reaction schemes, batch records, and technical reports.
Analyze reaction samples using analytical techniques such as HPLC, GC, TLC, and NMR (basic interpretation).
Troubleshoot process-related issues and improve reaction yield, purity, and productivity.
Transfer developed processes from laboratory scale to pilot plant and commercial manufacturing.
Ensure compliance with GLP, GMP, EHS, and company SOPs.
Handle chemicals safely and dispose of laboratory waste according to safety guidelines.
Coordinate with Analytical R&D;, Process Development (PD), Production, QA, and QC teams.
Participate in technology transfer (Tech Transfer) activities.
Maintain laboratory equipment, instruments, and documentation.
Support process validation and qualification activities when required.

Required Skills
Solid knowledge of Organic Chemistry and API synthesis.




Hands-on experience with laboratory glassware and synthesis equipment.
Knowledge of reaction mechanisms and process optimization.
Basic understanding of analytical instruments (HPLC, GC, LCMS, NMR, IR).
Documentation skills and technical report writing.
Problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
Valuable communication and teamwork skills.
Familiarity with GLP, GMP, EHS, and SOP compliance.

Qualification
B.Sc / M.Sc Chemistry

Experience
Freshers: Laboratory internship or academic project experience.
Experienced: 0- 1 year in API R&D;, Process R&D;, CRD, or Process Development.
