Job Description (JD) – Senior Manager – Production (BESS)

Department: Production / Manufacturing
Designation: Senior Manager – Production
Industry: Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
Experience: 12–18 Years (Relevant BESS / Battery Manufacturing experience preferred)
Qualification: B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, or related engineering field.

1. Job Purpose

To lead and manage end-to-end BESS production operations, ensuring achievement of production targets, quality standards, cost efficiency, operational excellence, safety compliance, and timely delivery of battery energy storage systems.

2. Key Roles & Responsibilities

A. Production Planning & Execution

1. Lead daily, weekly, and monthly production planning and execution.

2. Ensure achievement of production targets as per customer requirements and delivery schedules.

3. Manage end-to-end BESS manufacturing, assembly, integration, and commissioning readiness.

4. Optimize manpower, machinery, material, and production capacity.

5. Monitor production KPIs and implement corrective actions for deviations.

B. BESS Manufacturing & Technical Knowledge

1. Strong understanding of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) manufacturing processes.

2. Knowledge of battery pack assembly, module assembly, and container-level integration.

3. Understanding of Battery Management System (BMS), Power Conversion System (PCS), HVAC, fire suppression, and thermal management systems.

4. Knowledge of electrical panel integration, cable harnessing, busbar assembly, and electrical connections.

5. Understanding of battery testing, insulation resistance, voltage, capacity, and functional testing.

6. Ensure proper integration of battery racks, containers, and auxiliary systems.

C. Process Excellence & Productivity

1.



Drive OEE improvement, line balancing, and production efficiency.

2. Implement Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, and Six Sigma practices.

3. Identify bottlenecks and reduce cycle time and manufacturing losses.

4. Improve manpower productivity and machine utilization.

5. Drive automation and process improvement initiatives.

D. Quality Management

1. Ensure adherence to quality standards at every stage of production.

2. Define and monitor CTQ (Critical to Quality) parameters.

3. Reduce rejection, rework, and customer complaints.

4. Implement CAPA, RCA, FMEA, and process control measures.

5. Coordinate with Quality and Engineering teams for process validation.

E. Safety & Compliance

1. Ensure implementation of EHS standards across the production area.

2. Maintain electrical safety, fire safety, and battery handling protocols.

3. Ensure compliance with applicable BESS manufacturing and testing standards.

4. Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments.

5. Ensure protected handling, storage, and disposal of battery cells and materials.

F. Supply Chain & Material Management

1. Coordinate with SCM, Purchase, Stores, and Planning teams.

2. Ensure material availability as per production schedules.

3. Optimize inventory levels and minimize material wastage.

4. Manage vendor coordination for production-related requirements.

5. Ensure proper traceability of battery cells and critical components.

G. Team Leadership & Development

1. Lead and develop production managers, engineers, supervisors, and operators.

2. Define team KPIs and monitor individual performance.

3. Conduct regular performance reviews and technical training.

4. Build a culture of accountability, discipline, and continuous improvement.

5. Coordinate with cross-functional teams to resolve operational challenges.
